Abstract :
This article takes a constructive stance towards emerging technologies in the specific context of strategizing. The purpose is neither to add and intensify doomsday scenarios about how, for example, AI replaces white collar staff members in their crucial roles, nor to hype up the glimpses of what is becoming feasible technologically. The purpose is to describe a use case of one sample technology. Illustrating how it works should inspire one to understand technological potentials better and trigger a dialogue on how to bring organizational tasks, such as strategizing, to life more aptly. This article zooms in on the AQai application, an AI-based software able to support strategic analysis, evaluate options, and prepare for a more sound implementation and approach to change management. The empirical substantiation relies on an anonymized case study to protect the company participating in an exercise to explore how ready it is for a major strategic shift. The study implies that never before could an organization’s readiness be analyzed as effectively as this is the case now. Effectiveness refers first to the time needed to start, implement, interpret and communicate the results, and second to the cost of doing so due to automation with the help of AI.
